Let Em Shine set hot splits before fading to third over the Betfair Hollywood Park Cushion Track Dec. 15, but he certainly wasn’t stopping this time. Backed down to 9-5 favoritism with a Jan. 11 five-furlong bullet over the strip in :58 4/5 on display, the bay zipped to the lead and quickly opened up, posting supersonic splits of :21 flat and :43.23. He took a five-length advantage into the lane, and literally ran off the screen at one point in the stretch, eventually being geared down late to score by 7 1/2 lengths. Well-regarded Baffert firster Govenor Charlie (Midnight Lute) made a nice late run for second. The winner was a $10,000 Keeneland September yearling turned $100,000 Barretts March buy after breezing a co-quickest furlong of :9 4/5.
