Telescope was beaten only a short head by Snow King (Elusive Quality) despite the rider losing his whip in a seven-furlong maiden at Ascot on debut Sept. 8 and traded at 8-13 here with experience in that hot-looking race under his belt. Keen early while racing in second as Space Ship (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) led at a moderate pace, the bay moved smoothly to the lead with a quarter mile remaining and only needed to be shaken up to assert his superiority and score by 2 1/4 lengths from Elkaayed (Distorted Humor). "He's a big, scopey horse and he has a lot of natural ability," trainer Sir Michael Stoute commented. "He is very much on the leg at the moment and has a big frame to fill. He may run once more [this year], but I wouldn't commit--we'll see how he comes out of this." Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, £6,068. O: Highclere Thoroughbred Racing-Wavertree | B: Barronstown Stud | T: Sir Michael Stoute |
