Pure Indy, produced by a half-sister to MGISW Pure Clan (Pure Prize) and MGSW Greater Good (Intidab), stamped herself as one to keep a very close eye on with this impressive debut at Del Mar. Backed as the 3-1 favorite, the $195,000 Barretts March graduate lacked early speed and was under a ride while trailing the field of 10 through an opening quarter in :22.43 and a half in :45.93. Still with plenty left to do at the top of the stretch, the chestnut was angled out at least eight wide at the head of affairs, and came charging on the outside with an impressive stretch run while lugging in repeatedly despite several left-handers from jockey Victor Espinoza to win going away by a visually impressive 1 1/4 lengths. Controlled Chaos (Tale of the Cat) was second. The winner is a half-sister to Indian Camp (Forest Camp), MSP, $151,963. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $42,000. Click for the brisnet.com chart.
