Fast Bullet, a half-brother to Blairs Roarin Star (Roar), GSP, $181,771, romped by 6 1/4 lengths on debut at Santa Anita Oct. 9, earning a 92 Beyer Speed Figure. He was favored in last Friday's Jimmy V. S. on the Breeders' Cup undercard at Churchill Downs, but was a late scratch after getting tangled up in the starting gate. Bouncing back quickly from that incident with a three-furlong blow-out in :35 1/5 over the track Nov. 8, the $230,000 KEESEP yearling was off at odds of 3-10. Perched three-deep in third behind splits of :22.59 and :45.71, he took over with ease to put a head in front at the head of the lane. Still well within himself, Fast Bullet increased his advantage to 3 3/4 lengths on the line, getting his final eighth in :23.44. Darley colorbearer Wall Dance (Street Cry {Ire}), who was getting back onto a synthetic track for the first time since an impressive debut of his own at Arlington in May, was second. Fast Bullet is a grandson of 1986 GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner and champion Brave Raj (Rajab). His dam has a 2-year-old filly by Hat Trick (Jpn), and was bred to Zensational this past spring. This was the second J "TDN Rising Star" J purchased by Jeff Seder and Patti Miller's EQB in two days--they also picked out George Strawbridge's Ever So Lucky (Indian Charlie), who broke his maiden impressively at Churchill Downs first out Friday. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $55,800. O: Zayat Stables LLC | B: Roy Gottlieb (KY) | T: Bob Baffert |
