  NEWMARKET, 18.35, Mdn, 7,000, 2yo, 1mT, 1:43.69, sf, 6, 10

Frankel (GB), C, 2, by Galileo (Ire)

1st Dam: Kind (Ire) (MSW-GB, GSP-Ire, $132,389), by Danehill
2nd Dam: Rainbow Lake (GB), by Rainbow Quest
3rd Dam: Rockfest, by Stage Door Johnny

Frankel carried a big enough reputation into this race, which saw the debut of Motivator (GB) (Montjeu {Ire}) six years ago, to be sent off the 7-4 favorite. That despite the fact that he faced a raft of notably bred individuals, and there is an unwritten rule that his trainer's runners usually benefit from their first outing. Steadied out of the gate by Tom Queally, the homebred was always traveling strongly in mid-pack, and was still full of run when easing upsides fellow newcomer Nathaniel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) inside the final quarter. Given a squeeze passing the furlong marker, the imposing bay stretched into a short lead and was hand ridden from there to best that well-supported 3-1 second favorite by a half length, with five lengths back to Genius Beast (Kingmambo). "I didn't know he'd go on that ground, and Tom was very easy on him, as I hadn't galloped him and he was just ready for a race," trainer Henry Cecil said. "He could potentially be very nice, and will come on a lot for that. He's got good engagements." The winner is a 1/2 to Bullet Train (GB) (Sadler's Wells), GSW-GB. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, £4,533.
