Deauville's weekday crowd was confronted with a raft of well-bred newcomers in this intriguing event, and got the balance right as Exemplify (GB), a half-sister to the dual Classic heroine Special Duty (GB) (Hennessy), justified odds-on favoritism to open her account in taking style. She broke in alert fashion and raced in second early before assuming control after a furlong. Last to come off the bridle in the straight, the 4-5 pick was pressed by Nosail (Fr) (Anabaa Blue {GB}) with 300 meters remaining. Under Stephane Pasquier's whipless encouragement, she kept on strongly in the closing stages to comfortably best that rival by 3/4 of a length. "Exemplify is a filly I've always liked, and she has been working very well at home," commented trainer Criquette Head-Maarek. "I liked the way she quickened for a second time when challenged in the straight and won safely at the end. She's got a big frame and will get even stronger, so I think there's plenty of improvement to come. She has a nice future." Tracing back to Chris Evert (Swoon's Son), Exemplify was produced by an unplaced full-sister to MGISW Sightseek and a half to MGISW Tates Creek (Rahy). As mentioned, she is a half to Special Duty, Ch. 2yo Filly-Eur, Hwt 2yo Filly-Eng & Fr, MG1SW-Eng & G1SW-Fr, $1,069,350. Lifetime Record: 1 start, 1 win €12,000.
