Kayce Ace needed little introduction from a pedigree standpoint as a full sister to Colonel John, MGISW, $1,779,012; and Mr. Hot Stuff, GISP, $191,250; and a half to Caroline's Gold (Touch Gold), GSP, $156,410, and joined her GI Santa Anita Derby-winning brother as a "TDN Rising Star."  Part of an entry sent off at 5-1 in their seven-furlong debuts at Santa Anita Mar. 21, the scopey dark bay found herself as many as 10 lengths out of it early on, but found her best stride late and cut the margin to 1 1/4 lengths in finishing second. Stretching out to a route of ground as the 6-5 chalk, Kayce Ace took up a midpack position as S C Song Girl (Southern Image) set only an even pace up front. The WinStar runner was ridden along on the turn, was switched out off heels at the eighth pole and came with menacing strides to beat the pacesetter a half-head on the wire. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $34,000.
