Brake Lights was purchased as a weanling for a lofty $220,000 at KEENOV on behalf of these owners, who campaigned the late Saint Liam to Horse of the Year and GI Breeders' Cup Classic titles in 2005. Saddled by assistant trainer Artie Magnuson for his Dec. 5 debut over a sloppy inner track, the bay colt raced just off the speed and tried to make a race of it late, but weakened a bit to finish fifth by 3 1/2 lengths. Trying two turns for the first time, Brake Lights broke alertly and was in front soon thereafter. Well rated on a moderate pace of :48.53 for the half and 1:14.24 for six panels, he had plenty left for the drive and was ridden out to a 9 1/2-length success. The final time was :1 2/5 quicker than stakes horses went later in the card in the Count Fleet S. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $25,890.
