Crisis of Spirit was produced by an unraced daughter of Mike Pegram's superb champion Silverbulletday (Silver Deputy). She was given a 2-1 chance in her debut at Del Mar Sept. 5 and was a good second, beaten 3/4 lengths by Always a Princess (Leroidesanimaux {Brz}), who came back to be runner-up in yesterday's GI Oak Leaf S. at Santa Anita. Hammered down to 4-5 favoritism in this second go, she was away alertly from post three and was clear as she sped through a half in :45 3/5. Shaken up by jockey Mike Smith in upper stretch, she easily turned back the challenge of Fair Chase (Tale of the Cat) and cruised home clear by 4 1/4 lengths. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $34,200.
