  CHANTILLY, 15.20, Mdn, 24,000, 2yo, c/g, 1 mT, 1:38, gd

Mubtassim (GB), C, 2, by Red Ransom

1st Dam: Style Setter (SP-US), by Manila
2nd Dam: Charleston Rag (Ire), by General Assembly
3rd Dam: Music Ville (Ire), by Charlottesville (GB)

Mubtassim finished runner-up to "TDN Rising Star" Lope de Vega (Ire) (Shamardal) in a newcomers' event at Deauville Aug. 26, and he paid that former rival a handsome compliment with a bristling performance in this second go. The $475,000 KEESEP yearling led after the initial strides and maintained control throughout. Allowed an inch of rein with 250 meters remaining, the 9-10 pick stretched clear inside the final furlong to score by an impressive five lengths from Trajectory (GB) (Dubai Destination). "Mubtassim is a horse I like a lot, and I think he'll stay further next year, especially as he's a full-brother to [G1 Epsom Oaks winner] Casual Look," said trainer Freddy Head. "I might give him another easy race this season, and then put him away until next year." In addition to being a sibling to Casual Look, G1SW-GB, G1SP-Ire & US, $604,422; Mubtassim is also a full-brother to Shabby Chic, SW & GSP-Fr, GISP-US, the dam of Italian highweight Fashion Statement (GB) (Rainbow Quest); and a half-brother to American Style (Quiet American), MGSP-US, $282,233. Style Setter's yearling Red Ransom filly RNA'd for $240,000 on the opening day of Keeneland September. She produced a colt by Street Cry (Ire) earlier this year and was bred back to that stallion. Memory Cloth (GB), a half-brother to Ibn Khaldun (Dubai Destination), raced in rear and made some late headway to finish fourth. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, €16,800.
