Dashing Debby looked to be in over her head in her career debut, but belied the 13-1 odds with a dominant performance. The bay filly took the lead soon after the start and shrugged off a challenge from Miss Delite at the top of the stretch. Jockey Daniel Coa threw her a cross in the lane and Dashing Debby galloped off into the sunset. "She's been real good all along," said winning trainer Gerard Procino. "I wanted her to go six furlongs for her first time, so we waited. We had her entered in a race [June 20], but had to scratch because she was sick." He added, "I'm not at all surprised [of her winning a stakes race in career debut]; I thought she was that good." As for what's next, the horseman added, "Maybe something at Saratoga. We'll see how she comes out of this one then decide." Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $30,000. O: New Life Stable | B: New Life Farm (KY) | T: Gerald Procino |
