Indygo Mountain was one of two yearlings purchased by Clarence Scharbauer, Jr. at the 2007 Keeneland September Sale. Scharbauer, whose family campaigned Horse of the Year Alysheba, paid $600,000 for the colt, the produce of a stakes-winning half-sister to the good Grade I hero Siphonic (Siphon {Brz}). Indygo Mountain debuted over Keeneland's Polytrack Oct. 15, and ran on to be a good second for the Bret Calhoun barn. The chestnut was sent off the 9-5 choice in his first dirt effort and came through with aplomb. Settled just off the pacesetter by jockey Jamie Theriot, he moved to challenge in upper stretch, made the front under a bit of urging and galloped away from the rest in the final sixteenth, winning by an unextended 6 1/4 lengths. Futuristic (Millennium Wind) came home second. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $36,416. O: Clarence Scharbauer Jr. | B: Summer Wind Farm (KY) | T: W Bret Calhoun |
