Delegator, who shaped with a deal of promise when runner-up in a competitive maiden over course and distance on debut Aug. 8, enjoyed the crowd's seal of approval in this second go. That confidence was not misplaced as the G1 Dewhurst S. and G1 Racing Post Trophy entry justified those lofty engagements by outclassing 18 rivals with an impressive display. The bay homebred stalked the leaders in a close fifth until swooping for the lead with 1 1/2 furlongs to go. Bursting clear soon after, the 8-11 favorite was geared down late to comfortably hold the promising late run of Palavicini (Giant's Causeway) by a length. "We think the world of him, he's done everything right throughout and is a very special colt," enthused trainer Brian Meehan. "He was green first time and he was green again today, but he won very nicely. We'll play it by ear and will take a view once those [Oct. 18 Dewhurst S. and Oct. 25 Racing Post Trophy] races come upon us. Right now, I'd lean towards the Racing Post Trophy, but it will certainly be one of those two races if we run again [this season]."
