  SANDOWN PARK, 3.25, Mdn, 10,000, 2yo, 7f 16ydsT, 1:29.60, gd/fm

Zacinto (GB), C, 2, by Dansili (GB)

1st Dam: Ithaca (GSP-Eng), by Distant View
2nd Dam: Reams of Verse, by Nureyev
3rd Dam: Modena, by Roberto

Zacinto, the first foal from his group-placed dam, had been the subject of favorable home reports in recent weeks and justified the hype--and the weight of punters' hopes--by exploding onto the scene in this racecourse bow. Settled three lengths off the pace after the initial strides, Juddmonte's homebred inched into contention soon after turning for home. The bay eased to the front inside the final quarter mile and powered clear in the closing stages to dismiss Seminole (Ire) (Indian Ridge {Ire}) by a highly impressive eight lengths as the 5-6 favorite. He is quoted as short as 10-1 for next year's 2000 Guineas. "He did it nicely, really, and it was very pleasing," commented Racing Manager Teddy Grimthorpe. "His homework has suggested he's quite useful; he did it pretty professionally, and once [jockey] Ryan [Moore] got him in the clear, he quickened quite well. He's a Dansili homebred; his granddam is Reams of Verse, so it's a super pedigree and he really is promising. I'll obviously have to talk to Sir Michael and the Prince about future plans, but I think he would have to step up a bit now. There are some nice seven-furlong two-year-old races to come." Reams of Verse, winner of the G1 Fillies' Mile and English highweight in 1996, returned the following season to add the G1 Oaks at Epsom. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, £6,476.
