Zaftig showed her inexperience when fifth at Aqueduct in her first start Oct. 28, but was ready to roll at second asking. The 5-2 shot was rated just off the pace for a half, went after 6-5 chalk Anachronism (Yonaguska) at the top of the lane and galloped away to beat the favorite by 8 3/4 lengths. Just Regal (Pulpit) was the last one to cross the line. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $25,560.
