  Aqueduct, Race 3, Msw, 53,000, 2yo, 1 1/8m, 1:52 4/5, ft

  Numaany, C, 2, by A.P. Indy

1st Dam: Munnaya (SW-GB), by Nijinsky II
2nd Dam: Hiaam, by Alydar
3rd Dam: Kamar, by Key to the Mint

A 3/4-brother to Mystic Melody (Seattle Slew), SW & MGSP-Fr, Numaany debuted going a mile at Belmont Sept. 30 and wound up fourth to Globalization after racing greenly. Stretching out to two turns this time and adding Lasix, the Darley flagbearer was part of a heavily favored 2-5 entry with British Columbia (E Dubai), but nearly had his backers tearing up their tickets. The big chestnut raced along in second and cruised up to take command straightening into the stretch when he decided to take a right. Jockey Javier Castellano lost his iron as his mount nearly reached the outer rail, but regained his stirrup and his seat and got after his mount. Numaany rebroke, lengthened his stride nicely and wound up winning by 2 3/4 lengths over his entrymate, with Stormtalk (Storm Cat) a half-length further back in third. Numaany’s granddam Hiaam, a daughter of the excellent broodmare Kamar, is half-sister to Grade I winners Gorgeous and Seaside Attraction. Acquired as a yearling for $1.5 million at KEEJUL in 1985, Hiaam won the G3 Princess Margaret S. the following year. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $34,450.
