Punters were unaware of Verba’s potential, but the 12-1 chance left an indelible mark with a demolition job on 13 rivals. Rushed out to take control, the Eu180,000 DEAAUG yearling was allowed leeway after the initial strides. Maintaining a healthy buffer into the straight, the half to Welcome Millenium (Fr) (Kendor {Fr}), SW & MGSP-Fr; and Ximb (Fr) (Septieme Ciel), SW & G1SP-Fr, $136,030, enjoyed splendid isolation inside the final quarter-mile and was geared down inside the last 100 meters to score by a hugely impressive eight lengths from Barefoot’s Park (Fr) (Noverre). "This is a filly with which my staff has done a very good job," revealed trainer Richard Gibson. "She has a tendency to be keen and nervous so I was not surprised to see her on the lead. She is from a nice family which loves soft ground so she might run again this year and we'll decide where and when once we have consulted with the owners."
