McCartney, who holds an entry in the Oct. 20 G1 Darley Dewhurst S. at Newmarket, was an encouraging third behind Better Hand (Ire) in a seven-furlong Sandown maiden on debut July 25 and started as the 6-4 favorite stepped up in trip. Always traveling strongly in a stalking third, the Eu90,000 BBASEP yearling loomed on the front end before the quarter pole and quickly drew clear before being eased to an emphatic seven-length success.
