  Delaware Park, Race 4, Msw, 40,300, 2yo, 4 1/2f, :52 3/5, ft

Motovato, C, 2, by Proud Citizen

1st Dam: Buffalo Bird Woman (MSP, $162,013), by Slew City Slew
2nd Dam: Famous Colony, by Pleasant Colony
3rd Dam: Famous Partner, by Illustrious

Motovato had seen his value dip each year, going from being a $150,000 KEENOV weanling to a $75,000 KEESEP yearling before being led out unsold at this year’s OBSMAR sale at $55,000. It just goes to show, you never know. Turned over to Gary Contessa, the bay colt had several good drills at Saratoga and went postward here as the 4-5 chalk, but made that price look like a bargain. The crowd’s choice broke alertly to vie for the lead and was given his cue to go on with it at the the top of the stretch by Jose Lezcano. Gone in a flash, Motovato was geared down late to score by nine lengths with his ears pricked. He marks the first winner for his freshman sire (by Gone West), who was the runner-up in the 2002 GI Kentucky Derby. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,000.
