Oistins Bay finished a well-beaten second behind runaway maiden winner Street Magician in his Gulfstream debut Feb. 10 following a slow start. The chestnut showed three workouts at Palm Meadows since, including a four-furlong breeze in :48 2/5 Mar. 4. Hammered down to 4-5 to go one better this time, the Melnyk homebred pressed the early leader through a :22.15 opening quarter, made it to the front on the turn for home and drew off impressively when asked in the stretch to win by 5 3/4 lengths. Secret Design (Quiet American) completed the exacta at odds of 14-1. The winner’s second dam produced 2002 champion older horse Left Bank. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $30,780.
