Thiella faced a stern task on debut against Ballydoyle’s highly-regarded Red Rock Canyon (Ire) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}) and started at 8-1 in the face of strong support for that rival. Breaking well, she was coaxed into mid-division by Pat Smullen and traveled strongly into the straight as Red Rock Canyon tried to stretch his rivals under Kieren Fallon. Switched off the rail at the quarter pole, the 200,000gns TATOCT yearling grabbed the 4-11 pick approaching the final furlong and quickly asserted to record a comfortable 1 1/4-length success from that one.
