Cowtown Cat, the $1,500,000 salestopper at the Barretts March Sale, pressed the pace before weakening to be fifth in his career opener at the Spa Aug. 16. The 6-5 chalk in his second try, the chestnut colt put a head in front after three furlongs and opened it up down the lane to take it by 4 1/2 lengths. Summer Doldrums (Strete Cry {Ire}) was second best. The winner was also a $135,000 KEESEP yearling. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $27,210.
