  CHANTILLY, 3.20, Mdn, 19,000, 3yo, f, 1mT, 1:42.10, gd

Phantom Rose, F, 3, by Danzig

1st Dam: Honest Lady (GISW, $894,168), by Seattle Slew
2nd Dam: Toussaud, by El Gran Senor
3rd Dam: Image of Reality, by In Reality

This was no ordinary newcomers’ event with eventual winner Phantom Rose lining up against half-sisters to G1 heroines Rebelline (Ire) and Six Perfections (Fr), among others, in a contest awash with potential class. The Juddmonte homebred was no shrinking violet herself, hailing from a deep catalogue page and daughter to a GI Breeders’ Cup Sprint runner-up to boot, and rewarded punters’ awareness with a highly-polished display before the chateau. Breaking with panache from an outside box to track the leading pair, the 9-10 pick moved smoothly throughout this first at bat. She oozed confidence when taking command, on the bridle, approaching the final furlong and required minimal use of the gears thereafter to dispose of promising blueblood Partly Sunny (GB) (Alhaarth {Ire}) by an unextended 1 1/2 lengths. The Niarchos Family’s Breathe (Fr) (Ocean of Wisdom) also ran with credit, overcoming greenness and running-on after the issue was settled to claim fourth nearing the line. Lifetime Record: 1 start,1 win, Eu9,500.
