  LINGFIELD, 3.10, Mdn, 4,924, 3yo, 1 1/4mAW, 2:07.29, stn

Leningrad (Ire), C, 3, by Montjeu (Ire)

1st Dam: Sallanches, by Gone West
2nd Dam: Stresa (Ire), by Mill Reef
3rd Dam: Ileana (GB), by Abernant (GB)

Leningrad was well touted before this debut and overcame a tardy start to justify a G1 Derby entry with a fluent success. Hammered down to 10-11 at the boards, the grey was sluggish from the gate, but soon recovered to race in sixth. Angled off the rail for his bid approaching the final quarter mile, the Eu82,000 GOFNOV weanling and Eu520,000 GOFORB yearling purchase made smooth headway from there to challenge on the bridle at the eighth pole and was coaxed clear under a hand ride to easily account for Alcyon (Ire) (Alhaarth {Ire}) by 1 1/4 lengths. Lifetime Record:

1-1-0-0, £3,239.

O: Philip Green & Michael Tabor | B: Kilcarn Stud | T: Michael Bell
