Fantastic Shirl was let go at 4-1 in her debut despite her impressive family connections. The half sister to Grade I winner Shakespeare (Theatrical {Ire}, $664,140) chased the pace through fractions of :22.71 and :47.29, moved to the lead with authority on the far turn and powered clear to a 3 3/4-length triumph. Fellow first timer Doryphar (Gone West) was second. Fantastic Shirl was a $170,000 KEESEP yearling. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $19,200.
