  NEWMARKET, 3.55, Mdn, 10,740, 2yo, c/g, 1mT, 1:36.92, gd

Fire and Rain (Fr), C, 2, by Galileo (Ire)

1st Dam: Quatre Saisons (Fr), by Homme de Loi (Ire)
2nd Dam: American Order, by Slew O’Gold
3rd Dam: Exclusive Order, by Exclusive Native

Aidan O’Brien’s decision to bring Fire and Rain across the Irish Sea for his debut was fully justified as the G1 Epsom Derby entry plundered this maiden in determined fashion. Breaking smartly to occupy a handy fifth early, the 5-1 chance was coaxed upsides Mashaahed (GB) (In The Wings {GB}) at the quarter pole. The imposing bay stuck out his neck under a power drive from there to outgame that rival by a length. "He’s a big horse with a great temperament," enthused Kieren Fallon. "I think he’s got a big future and I’m really looking forward to riding him next year. He’s got what it takes--he’ll get a trip as well--and he could end up as one of our Derby horses." The winner, the 10th for his freshman sire (by (Sadler’s Wells), was an Eu80,000 DEAAUG yearling purchase. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, £6,981.
