Pure Illusion was set a daunting task against colts in a Newbury maiden on debut July 22, but came through with credit to finish third. Entered in the Sept. 24 G1 Fillies' Mile run on Newmarket's Rowley Mile track this year, the 4-5 crowd's choice traveled easily up with the early tempo before easing to the front passing the quarter pole. Quickening clear soon after, she was hand-ridden to inflict a three-length defeat of Eilean Ban (Silver Hawk) in a time just a tick slower than that clocked by Nasheej in the G3 Sweet Solera S. earlier on the card.
