A few days short of five years ago, jockey Joe Bravo piloted Songandaprayer to a first-out maiden victory at Monmouth Park. Yesterday, the perennial local riding champion was astride this good-looking first-time starter who became the second winner his freshman sire (by Unbridled’s Song). A $100,000 FTKJUL yearling purchase, Praying for Cash zipped a quarter mile in :21 flat prior to this year’s Keeneland April sale and was knocked down for $150,000 to the bid of Bobby Hurley and partner Ricky Gallo, who also campaigned Songandaprayer. Sent off the even-money favorite for his debut, the Florida-bred colt settled just off the early pace before accelerating to the front on the turn. He opened up to lead by six leaving the eighth pole and reported home an eased-down 4 1/2 lengths clear of Confront (Line in the Sand). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $22,200. O: Devil Eleven Stable & Ricky Gallo | B: Randy Coker & Joe Taylor | T: Kelly John Breen |
