A $160,000 FTKJUL yearling, Forever Brilliant had just one previous start to her credit, an excellent third-place finish at 13-1 at Churchill on Halloween. The 7-2 second choice in her sophomore debut, this half sister to Regiment (Outflanker), SW & MGSP, $288,940; and Eternal Cup (Montbrook), MSW, $168,760, dueled heads apart with even money Boardwalk Babe (Salt Lake) for the opening half mile, disposed of that foe turning into the stretch and leveled off nicely, reporting home an 8 1/2-length winner. First-time starter The in Thing (Wild Again) completed the exacta at 41-1 while Boardwalk Babe tired to finish a distant sixth.
