TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Sent off a tasty 5-1 chance in this second go, she was caught flat-footed at the start, forcing her to spot the field a few lengths. However, jockey Jose Lezcano remained confident on the filly, allowing her to trail through pokey opening fractions of :24.48 and :49.51. Pulling her way into contention along the inner down the backstretch, she was shuffled back approaching the quarter pole, but responded quickly when finding a seam turning for home. Finding daylight along the rail in early stretch, the homebred cruised up to reach the leaders, angled out three wide to overtake Corporate Culture (English Channel) and the tiring pacesetter Lemon Song (Lemon Drop Kid) late and burst clear to hand Corporate Culture a 1 3/4-length defeat. Lemon Song faded to last. Click for the brisnet.com chart, or the free brisnet.com catalogue-style pedigree. VIDEO. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $85,200. O/B-Gallagher's Stud (NY). Declan's Warrior, sent off the 1-2 favorite, settled behind the pacesetting Happy My Way (Wilko) who reeled off early opening splits of :22.52 and :45.13. Seemingly beaten turning for home, the GIII Bay Shore S. winner found another gear in the stretch and wore down the new leader Tenango in the late stages to win by a half-length. Battier, who broke slow and spotted the field a couple of lengths, closed along the rail to be third.

New Study on EIPH confirms Salix is performance Enhancing
A new study by Dr Joe Pagan and colleagues that is to be presented at the upcoming Equine Symposium in New Mexico shows that Salix enhances performance independent of alleviating EIPH. The summary of the findings were that Salix (also known as Lasix and Furosemide), essentially acts as a lactate buffer (which is why the TCO2 levels for testing are higher on horses that use lasix than those that do more...
