Book Claims That 85% of Trainers Give Illegal Medications on Race Day
by TDN SUBSCRIBER - 04/14/2012 11:52:58 AM EDT

My name is Glenn Thompson and I have been a trainer for over thirty years. I have never had a positive drug test nor have I ever had to put a horse down on race day. I have recently written a book "The Tradition of Cheating in the Sport of Kings". Since my book came out in November, racing has had to endure some of the hardest times that I can remember:

1.Seven horses falling in one race at Charlestown.

2.The huge number of breakdowns in New York.

3.The NY times article, which although needed, painted the darkest possible picture of our great sport.

4.The three horses dying on the set of Luck and the cancelation of the series

5.The very tragic race in Dubai and the poor decision that led to the deaths of more horses.

All of those and many other horses getting hurt in the last few months leads me to believe that the Racing Gods are calling for change and it is going to finally happen. If the people that are in charge of the integrity of racing, do not clean their own house and do it very soon then the Government is going to do it for them. I do not want to see this happen but the people that are in charge of integrity, The NTRA and the Jockey Club ect. have been very ineffective at their jobs. When we can't get universal rules and most of the vets and trainers are cheating on race day, I honestly don't know what these people are actually doing to earn their money. They are now going to be under the gun and if they don't produce drastic changes over the next year, I hope they are all looking for a Hotwalking Job, at least that way they could actually earn their paychecks.

My book has good ideas for changes that are needed and I hope people get behind it and get behind change.I also hope more people put a little heat on these organizations that have been sticking their heads in the sand and collecting their paychecks, that the horses sometimes pay with their lives.
