This is the latest: at a small track, a groom trained a mare by tying her tongue with wire. The tongue eventually was cut off by the mare's resistance. The groom came up with an immediate solution: put her in a field and let her starve to death.This is just one of the stories about TB racing that are starting to leak out to the general public, and this was just one of about a dozen other horrors about horse abuse that hit my desk today. So when racing cleans itself up, it has to remember the average horses on the back side and clean that part of itself up as well.
