   Still at the back of the pack as they wheeled into the stretch, Zabeel Racing's Richard's Kid looked a beaten horse two furlongs out. But the crowd's 8-5 favorite came flying up the rail under Garrett Gomez to take down this nine-furlong event. "I thought he had no chance turning for home, but it looks like he got up," Baffert said while being interviewed by HRTV on his way to the winner's circle. "We wanted a good prep for Dubai." Baffert said the five-year-old will now train up to the G1 Dubai World Cup, to be held at Meydan Racecourse Mar. 27.
   Leaving from post eight, Richard's Kid was among the trailers as Mast Track (Mizzen Mast) led through modest :24.26, :48.94 and 1:13.02 splits. Pick Six (Dynaformer) forged to take a narrow lead in upper stretch, but couldn't fend off a host of challengers in the dying strides, including the rail-skimming Richard's Kid. A total of 366 newly turned three-year-olds have been nominated to the 2010 Triple Crown, which kicks off May 1 with the GI Kentucky Derby, continues with the GI Preakness S. May 15 and concludes in New York with the GI Belmont S. June 5. The early nomination period, for a $600 fee, closed Jan. 16. Last year, 401 sophomores were nominated at this point. "Our nomination total is down a bit, but the 366 horses on the roster of nominees represent as deep a field of quality prospects as we've seen over the years," said Donald R. Richardson, senior vice president, racing, for Churchill Downs Incorporated. "All the major players in the United States have come forward for these Classics and have been joined by 17 representatives from abroad. The list includes eight of the top nine horses from the 2009 Experimental Free Handicap for two-year-old males, along with the fillies that were considered the top two of their gender in 2009, so it's clear that interest in this special series of Classics that include the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont S. remains deep and widespread." Eclipse Award winner Lookin at Lucky (Smart Strike) was one of 13 Bob Baffert trainees nominated, while his GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile conqueror Vale of York (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) is among eight Godolphin representatives on the list.
