TDN Best Bets

In town for the sales and looking for someplace new and different to eat, shop or visit? Let the TDN help! Following up on our popular Best Bets on the Jersey Shore series during Breeders' Cup week, TDN subscribers now regularly recommend dining and shopping options to our out-of-town readers.

JACK FRY’S RESTAURANT (Louisville, KY - Dining)

1007 Bardstown Road Louisville, KY 40204
Phone: (502) 452-9244
Web: www.jackfrys.com
Type: Upscale, down-home food served in an atmosphere familiar to the racing fan

The steaks are always cooked to perfection; I can’t even tell you how good it is. They do upscale, downhome food. The shrimp and grits just melts in your mouth. And the desserts are crazy good. Plus it’s in the heart of everything during the Derby, but it’s very quiet with old-school pictures on the walls. On Derby Day, they take reservations inside, but outside the tables are first-come, first-served. It’s worth it. I’ve waited until midnight on Derby night to eat there rather than anywhere else--it’s that good.
