Medaglia d'Oro's Fee Raised to $250K

Medaglia d'Oro

Leading sire Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado {Ire})–Cappucino Bay, by Bailjumper), initially increased from 150,000 to $200,000 when Darley's 2018 stud fees were announced Oct. 25, has been raised yet again to $250,000 on the heels of a very successful Breeders' Cup, where he was represented by a pair of winners. The new 2018 fee will apply to a limited number of remaining seasons.

Talismanic (GB)'s success in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf and Bar of Gold's 66-1 upset the GI Breeders' Cup F/M Sprint brought Medaglia d'Oro's number of 2017 Grade I winners up to seven. He is now the leading American sire of Grade I victors this term with a list that includes dual champion Songbird, who topped Monday's Fasig-Tipton November sale at $9.5 million, MGISW juvenile Bolt d'Oro, turfers New Money Honey and Dickinson; and MGISW “TDN Rising Star” Elate. The only other North American stallions to have as many as seven individual top-level winners in a single year are Mr. Prospector, Danzig and Storm Cat.

“Even before the Breeders' Cup, the demand for Medaglia d'Oro was extremely high,” said Darren Fox, nominations sales manager at Darley America. “After the wins by Bar Of Gold and Talismanic this past Saturday, we feel it incumbent on us to listen to what the market is telling us and adjust his fee accordingly. We have always set our fees at fair and competitive levels and we think that this is certainly in line with that historical approach.”
