McGrath to Return to TDN As Sr. Market Columnist

Chris McGrath, a multiple award-winning journalist and author, has accepted the position of Senior Market Columnist at the Thoroughbred Daily News and will begin those duties January 1, 2018. McGrath currently serves as Bloodstock Editor at the Racing Post, and will leave that position in December to take up his new role with the TDN.

McGrath, who worked for the TDN as a contributor in 2016-'17, has twice been Racing Writer of the Year in the U.K. His debut book–a social history of the turf, charted through the Darley Arabian line–was shortlisted for the 2016 William Hill Sports Book of the Year, the premier international prize of its kind. A Times Book of the Week, 'Mr Darley's Arabian' saw McGrath acclaimed by The Sunday Times as “one of the finest sportswriters of this generation…brilliant.” He has also spent time working within the industry, managing both a leading flat racing stable and a champion jockey. Previously a racing correspondent on The Times and The Independent, he has covered sales around the world.

McGrath will write a regular column on the market, contribute to sales coverage, and write regular features both for the TDN and for TDN Weekend.

“I am hugely excited and honoured to be joining a publication so dedicated to, and respected by, the professional community,” he said. “TDN has a true affinity with the business and I look forward with due humility to joining a team so thoroughly immersed in the priorities and perspectives of horsemen and women. Nobody in this walk of life will ever have all the answers, but TDN infectiously shares the passion of all those who depend, for their livelihood or satisfaction, on unraveling the mysteries of breeding and racing thoroughbreds.”
