Maclean's Music Juvenile Garners 'Rising Star' Distinction

Soul Streit (Maclean's Music), backed down to 4-5 for this always dangerous outfit, proved deserving of short odds and earned the 'TDN Rising Star' distinction for his Del Mar debut Sunday afternoon. The $85,000 Fasig-Tipton October grad showed good speed out wide while stacked four deep through an opening quarter of :22.18. He took over ominously as they straightened, hit another gear once switching leads, and ran up the score to 5 1/4 lengths on the line in :57.76. Eskimo Roses (Eskendereya) was second. Soul Streit is the first horse owned by ESPN College Gameday analyst Kirk Herbstreit. The winner's dam broke her maiden first out by seven lengths in Cal-bred company at Santa Anita in 2004. She was stakes-placed sprinting at this oval at four, produced an Archarcharch colt in 2016 and an Alternation filly in 2017. She was bred back to Maclean's Music this past breeding season.
