Macho Uno Gelding Takes Them Coast to Coast in NOLA

Macho Uno | Louise Reinagel

9th-FG, $40,000, Msw, 12-28, 2yo, 1m 70y, 1:44.35, gd.
TORRONTES (g, 2, Macho Uno–Airizon, by Boston Harbor), stretching out to a route of ground off a debut second going seven-eighths of a mile over a sloppy Churchill main track on the Stars of Tomorrow II program Nov. 28, made every yard to graduate by 3 3/4 lengths Monday at the Fair Grounds. Taking full advantage of the inside stall, Robby Albarado sent the chestnut straight to the lead and took them along at a steady gallop into the far turn. They lined up across the track to take a crack at the front-runner at the quarter-pole, but Torrontes had all the answers, as he galloped home a comfortable winner. Uncle James (Into Mischief), an overlaid 13-1 in receipt of first-time blinkers, loomed four wide into the lane and just pipped favored No Distortion (Distorted Humor)–the half-brother to GI Kentucky Oaks winner Proud Spell (Proud Citizen)–for second. The latter was shuffled back in traffic nearing the far turn, but re-rallied to just miss place honors. Sales history: $22,000 RNA Ylg '14 FTKJUL; $31,000 Ylg '14 FTKOCT. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $35,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
