Bay of Poets, who won once in his first six starts, ran second to subsequent G1 Epsom Derby runner-up Cliffs of Moher (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in Chester's May 12 Listed Dee S. before running seventh in the June 4 G1 Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly. Gelded after that Classic, he was 12th of 13 in Royal Ascot's June 22 G3 Hampton Court S. and went postward for this coming back from a second in the Aug. 1 Listed Prix de Tourgeville at Deauville. Positioned behind all four rivals for the most part, he made progress into contention on the home turn and was ridden out once taking control in early straight to comfortably register a career high.

Bay of Poets, kin to a yearling filly by Lope de Vega (Ire) and a filly foal by Power (GB), is out of a winning half-sister to G2 St Leger Italiano-winning dual European highweight Burma Gold (Ire) (Java Gold) and Listed Prix Finlande second Burma Sea (Fr) (Lope de Vega {Ire}). His dam Bristol Bay (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) is also a full-sister to the dam of G3 Killavullan S. victor and G1 Irish 2000 Guineas third Blue de Vega (Ger) (Lope de Vega {Ire}), and is a granddaughter of MGSW European highweight Britannia (Ger) (Tarim {GB}), who produced MG1SW G1 Deutsches Derby winners Borgia (Ger) (Acatenango {Ger}) and Boreal (Ger) (Java Gold).
