Lexie Lou (Sligo Bay {Ire}–Oneexcessivenite, by In Excess {Ire}), Canada's Horse of the Year in 2014, has been retired and will be offered at the upcoming Keeneland November Sale, according to published reports. A juvenile stakes winner at Woodbine for owner/trainer John Ross in 2013, Lexie Lou was purchased privately by Gary Barber and turned over to Mark Casse in the spring of her 3-year-old season. She'd go on to annex the Woodbine Oaks that June before besting the boys in the Queen's Plate, and added the Wonder Where S. and GIII Autumn Miss S. before finishing second to California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit) in Del Mar's GI Hollywood Derby that November. Lexie Lou's lone start last term was a runner-up finish in Santa Anita's GII La Canada S., but she returned to good form over the Toronto turf to upset the GII Nassau S. May 29. A game winner of the GII Dance Smartly S. July 3, she concluded her career with a facile front-running tally in the restricted Victoriana S. 27 days thereafter. Also named champion 3-year-old filly and champion turf female north of the border during her biggest season, the C$5,500 Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society Canadian-Bred yearling retires with an overall record of 24-10-4-4 and earnings of $1,763,538. Her second dam is Grade II winner Favored One (Son of Briartic), who also produced GSP Initforreal (Real Quiet).
