Lady Eli, Flintshire Post Turf Works

Flintshire | Adam Mooshian

Trainer Chad Brown has a barn full of high-profile turf runners–none more than the duo of undefeated champion Lady Eli (Divine Park) and celebrated globetrotter Flintshire (GB) (Dansili {GB})–and the trainer sent both out to breeze Sunday morning at Belmont Park. Lady Eli covered four furlongs in :49.50 over the inner turf in yet another step towards her recovery from a bout with laminitis following last July's GI Belmont Oaks Invitational.

“I thought she worked great,” Brown said. “It was her second work back and we put her in company [with 3-year-old filly Grey Stark].”

Absent from the races since last July, Lady Eli recorded four workouts at Palm Meadows Training Center in February and March. After another gap on the worktab, she recently returned to action with an easy four-furlong drill

Juddmonte Farms' Flintshire also worked over the inner turf, traveling five furlongs in 1:01.40 in preparation for a likely start in Saratoga's GII Bowling Green H. July 30. Having already won the GI Sword Dancer Invitational over the Saratoga lawn last August, the 6-year-old recently returned to America to annex the June 11 GI Manhattan S.–his first start for the Brown barn.

“I'd like to keep him running out of his own stall all the way up to the Breeders' Cup, and then go out on the road,” Brown said. “That's where we're leaning.”

Also on the worktab for Brown was GSW & GISP Mrs. McDougal (Medaglia d'Oro), who went five furlongs over the inner turf in 1:02.28. Brown said the bay, recently third in the GI Just a Game S. June 11, will make her next start in the GI Diana S. at Saratoga July 23.
