With no less than six horses coming into this ”Win & You're In' for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, the Pocahontas also offers implications in the “Road to the Kentucky Oaks.” Among the undefeated here is Take Charge Paula (Take Charge Indy), victorious going five panels at her home base of Monmouth Park July 7 before another notch to her belt in the 5.5-furlong White Clay Creek S. at Delaware Aug. 9. Shipping again this time, the filly warranted the trip, according to her New Jersey-based trainer Kelly Breen.
“She's been training really well,” said Breen, who shipped a trio of horses to Churchill Downs Wednesday in advance of Saturday's card. “We'll see if she is able to stretch out around two turns. This is a good test for her since she's been so impressive sprinting in her first two starts. Churchill Downs is a great spot to be when testing out young horses like this.”
Also arriving undefeated is Kelly's Humor (Midnight Lute), who showed versatility in winning in wire-to-wire fashion in her debut going a mile at Ellis July 23 before coming from well off the pace to score again last out in the seven-furlong Ellis Park Debutante S. Also exiting that race is the Ellis Debutante third Sunny Skies (Animal Kingdom). Victorious on the front end in her initial two, including Churchill's six-furlong Debutante S. June 30, the Ken McPeek trainee was seemingly taken out of her game last time out. Well of the early pace and forced wide turning for home, she closed well enough to be beaten only two lengths by the winner and looks to regroup here.
