Kyllachy Filly Wins the Oh So Sharp

Altyn Orda | Racing Post

Runner-up on debut to Godolphin's Peace Trail (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) over this trip on the July Course Aug. 12, Altyn Orda ran into the subsequent Listed Staffordstown Stud S. winner Bye Bye Baby (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) when two-lengths second to that Ballydoyle representative at this track Sept. 30. Tracking the stand's-side leader Dark Rose Angel (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) throughout the early stages as Butterscotch (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) took the pack along up the centre, the chestnut was launched approaching the quarter pole by Andrea Atzeni and jinked right soon after. Quickly in command of her group, the homebred who had ditched her rider on the way to the start overhauled Gavota and the well-supported I Can Fly in the closing stages as she pulled clear of her side.
Atzeni was more than happy to dispel Altyn Orda's pre-race antics after she had collected the prize and said, “She was cantering down to the start fine and then she looked at the camera, spooked and I fell off,” he explained. “She got loose, but luckily the lads managed to catch her. I knew when I hit the rising ground I was gradually getting to them and she's a very tough filly. She ran a nice race here last time when she was beaten by a nice filly and she's obviously improved. The lads have done a great job with her at home, as she's a bit of a madam but she's obviously a very talented filly and will be better next year.”
Trainer Roger Varian is looking at a 1000 Guineas preparation in the spring. “You are always nervous when they get loose,” he said. “I'm pleased she didn't go too silly or gallop too fast and run into anything. Coming into the race she was a maiden, but those two maidens were red-hot races. The first one at the July Course has produced lots of winners and she got beat by one of Aidan O'Brien's two weeks ago and she has won a listed race since. I think we will come back for a Guineas trial or go straight to a Guineas of some description next spring. She will get a mile, no problem.” Gavota's trainer Roger Charlton said of the runner-up, “Our filly ran very well and James [Doyle] said he's still not convinced the course really suits her. She is a long-striding filly, but is not the most robust. That is definitely it for the season.”
Altyn Orda is the first winnner for her maiden dam, who is a half-sister to the Listed Oak Tree S. winner and prolific producer Alidiva. Her four pattern-race scorers were the four-times group 1-winning sire Taipan (Ire), G1 Sussex S.-winning sire Ali-Royal (Ire), G1 1000 Guineas heroine Sleepytime (Ire) (Royal Academy) and GII Louisville Breeders' Cup H. and GII Rampart H. scorer Oonagh Maccool (Ire) (Giant's Causeway). Sleepytime is also the dam of five stakes performers headed by the G3 Winter Derby-winning sire Gentleman's Deal (Ire) and Hathal (Speightstown) who was successful in the G3 Superior Mile and has placed in the G2 Summer Mile, G2 York S. and G2 Celebration Mile. Ali-Royal and Sleepytime's unraced full-sister Sometime (Ire) was responsible for four stakes performers headed by the G1 Doncaster Mile hero Somewhat (Dynaformer). Alidiva's half-brother Croco Rouge (Ire) captured the G1 Prix d'Ispahan and G1 Prix Lupin and placed in the G1 Prix du Jockey Club and G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, among others. Albanka's yearling colt is by Teofilo (Ire), while she also has a filly foal by Kodiac (GB).
