Kowboy Karma was an overwhelming favorite off a super-impressive 12 1/2-length debut drubbing here July 19, and made 1-9 look like a bargain in this first try against winners. Dead last in the early going under a patient Alex Cintron, the 'TDN Rising Star' picked off rivals easily while four deep on the turn. Spun even wider for clear sailing into the stretch, he cantered past his foes without ever being asked and ran up the score to about three facile lengths under the line. American Talent, a romping debut winner himself at Parx, completed the exacta. The winner's dam, a $35,000 KEESEP yearling, was second in her best of three tries for these same connections. She had an Istan filly earlier this year, but was not bred thereafter. The winner's second dam was SW and MGSP Alyssum (Storm Cat), while third dam is 1982's champion juvenile filly Althea (Alydar). This is the extremely deep and highly coveted female family that traces back to blue hen Courtly Dee.
