Kodiac Sires 44th Juvenile Winner, Sets New UK Mark

Kodiac | Amy Lynam

Seen the Lyte (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) saluted in a Beverley claiming race Wednesday, giving her Tally-Ho Stud-based sire his 44th individual juvenile winner of the season, a new UK record. Kodiac held the previous best UK tally of 43, which he set in 2014. The son of Danehill and G1 Prix de Diane heroine Rafha (GB) (Kris GB), herself responsible for no less than four stakes winners including G1SW and top sire Invincible Spirit (Ire) (Green Desert), has already enjoyed three black-type winners from his current crop of juveniles: listed heroine Madeline (GB), who ran second in the G2 Lowther S.; listed winner and G3 Anglesey S. third Brother Bear (Ire); and Izzy Bizu (Ire), who struck in Deauville's Listed Prix Six Perfections.

From his first season at Tally-Ho in 2007 when standing at just €5,000, Kodiac's hallmark at stud has been siring precocious and fast runners. Despite only earning a Group 3 placing on the racecourse, as his merit as a sire became evident, his stud fee and the number and quality of mares Kodiac received increased accordingly. His best runner to date from 36 stakes winners is English Highweight 2-Year-Old Filly Tiggy Wiggy (Ire), who won the G1 Cheveley Park S. in 2014. His supporting cast including another 14 group winners, among them young sires and Group 2 winners Adaay (Ire), Kodi Bear (Ire) and Prince of Lir (Ire). Advertised at €50,000 in 2017, Kodiac is now chasing the worldwide juvenile record of 51, set by the late Japanese supersire Sunday Silence (Halo).
