ROARING LION (c, 2, Kitten's Joy–Vionnett {GISP-US, $175,140}, by Street Sense), sent off the 4-5 favourite despite racing under a six-pound penalty as a result of his debut success over this trip at Newmarket Aug. 18, broke well to race in a close-up second throughout the early stages. Taking command with two furlongs remaining, the $160,000 KEESEP yearling drew away while veering left to win by six lengths from Compliance (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}). The first foal out of the GI Rodeo Drive S. third Vionnet, Roaring Lion is a grandson of the GIII Las Cienegas H. and GIII Senator Ken Maddy H. winner Cambiocorsa (Avenue of Flags). Under her auspices are four black-type performers headed by the GII John C Mabee S. winner Moulin de Mougin (Curlin) and the GII Royal Heroine Mile heroine Schiaparelli (Ghostzapper), while she is a half to the three-times GIII Morvich H. winner California Flag (Avenue of Flags) who also took the second running of the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. The dam also has a yearling colt by Medaglia d'Oro and was bred to More Than Ready this year. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $11,422. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
