Away well from her inside draw, the gray tracked from a ground-saving third as 16-1 shot Tizthesound (Tiz Wonderful) ticked off early splits of :24.03 and :49.89. That rival was well clear turning for home and looked like she would go on with it in the lane, but Wessex was just finding her best stride. Tipped out two wide in late stretch, she swept up the pacesetter's outside and sailed clear with ears pricked to win by a length under Jose Lezcano. Tizthesound stayed on for second.
