Globetrotting Group 1 winner Jakkalberry (Ire) (Storming Home {GB}-Claba Di San Jore {Ire}, by Barathea {Ire}) has died at Novara Park Stud in New Zealand as a result of a gut infection.

“He got a gut infection and that was that, it was pretty quick and we had to put him down early this morning,” studmaster Ray Knight told nzracing.com. “To say it was premature is an understatement, the signs couldn't have been more encouraging for the horse. He's only had two to the races and they've both gone well.”

The 12-year-old Jakkalberry sits second on New Zealand's first-season sires' table. Trained initially in Italy by Endo Botti, Jakkalberry won the 2010 G1 Gran Premio di Milano. He was transferred to Marco Botti in Newmarket at the end of 2011 and within the next 12 months raced in six countries. He was third in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic, won the American St Leger and was third again in the G1 Melbourne Cup of 2012. He ran just once in 2013, winning the G2 Dubai City of Gold S. at Meydan.
