Gestut Rottgen's homebred Wild Coco (Ger) (Shirocco {Ger}) leapt to prominence this summer when winning the G3 Lillie Langtry S. and G2 Park Hill S. for Sir Henry Cecil. Her presence at Tattersalls was significant, as alongside being a talented runner in her own right she also descends from a notable German family of Wild Side (Ger) (Sternkoenig {Ire}) and Wild Romance (Ger) (Alkalde {Ger}). That residual value was not lost on the Japanese establishment KI Farm and Tomoyuki Nakamura's set-up eventually secured the 4-year-old for 985,000 guineas. "There is a Group 1 race in this filly," the auctioneer had stated and Keisuke Onishi of JS Company, who did the bidding, seemed to agree. "I was just hoping the auctioneer would drop the hammer," Onishi said. "I was on the phone to Japan and KI Farm for five minutes. I was a little nervous. She is a good-walking filly, with a good body and a good temperament." Wild Coco will remain in training with Cecil at Warren Place and race on at five in Europe.
