TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Yearling CMontjeu (Ire)--Wanna (Ire)725,000
    Breeder: Churchtown House Stud (Ire)
    Buyer: Waratah Thoroughbreds Pty
    Consignor: Churchtown House Stud
Bidding on behalf of Paul Fudge's Waratah Thoroughbreds Pty, Michael Goodbody saw off Coolmore's John Magnier to land a colt by the late Montjeu (Ire)--Wanna (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) on a final bid of 725,000gns (about $1,218,424) as evening set upon the Tattersalls October Sale Wednesday. The Feb. 4 foal, the first produce of a 3/4-sister to G1 Cheveley Park Stud S. winner Wannabe Grand (Ire) (Danehill), was bred and consigned by Tom Gaffney's Churchtown House Stud. "He has the pedigree, the looks and is by such a good sire who sadly is no longer with us," said Goodbody. "He is as good a one by the sire as I've seen, he is a lovely specimen," he added. "He may go into training in Britain or in France." With this purchase, Fudge has now bought four lots for 1,315,000gns.
